Blobbing (ie., resources > strategy) is going to be on the menu as long as the SOV and POS mechanics stay the way they are.
And what do you suggest we do instead? SOV and POS Warfare is the way it is because if I were to set up a real life valuble postition that I can't hide from anyone, I would put as much armor and protection on it as possible, so that it would take a blob of massive destruction to bring it down.
Quote: There are only two variables influencing that type of engagement: holding the field and blitzing through mechanics of volume in short timeframes, whereas the second is only an offensive option.
Regardless of the approach you need manpower and/or (super-) capital power, which is why SOV 0.0 is a conservative, feudal ****hole .
0.0 is a fuedal hole because human nature is to dominate, if you have renters/pets you are powerful. If you are a renter/pet you are part of something more powerful than yourself and I promise you that you moved up in relative power by being a renter/pet.
Quote: For any other occassion there are already numerous entities in various settings throughout the EVE that optimize composition and fight heavily outnumbered. The reason you don't see more of it around 0.0 is, once again, SOV and POS mechanics (the mentality that comes with it, and the necessity of amassing resources to overcome such mentality). Defenders in this game are rarely forced out to defend in smaller numbers and/or combat smaller temporary threats. Almost all relevant mechanics are centered around volume.
You don't really need to travel that far, just go to your neareast NPC 0.0 splash (try Venal if you're in the NC) to find smaller entities that are most likely 10x better than you at the type of gameplay you attempt to 'flesh out' in this thread. Groups that can't or more likely don't want to engage in the static nature of SOV (-anymore). You'll find it equally if you look around WH-space and FW-space, the band-aids CCP applied to deal with their failure of revamping the SOV 0.0 mechanics.
So you're saying that having a small band raiding mentality is better, not in actually warfare. Take historical examples, arguably the vikings were amazing warriors and the proof is that they had a massive influence area, but there actual controlled territory was small and inhospitable to most people. This is the same of the current 0.0 situation, the more aggressive alliances have great raids and are excellent at small/med group pvp. But there influence is minimal for a 0.0 alliance, I can promise you that some pet alliances wield more power in the market and politically than many expert pvp alliances, and I remind you that 0.0 is about power.
Quote: The topic is valid, honest and interesting - but it's common knowledge and as such it's not likely you'll get alot of good discussion out of this thread.
The summary is quite simple: people blob because the mechanics reward that.
As for this I will say that people blob because it is better to use many adequete soldiers and lose a few than to use a few excellent soldiers and lose them all. I don't agree with this and I high encourage developement of more great pvpers, but when your pvp defense is more than 50% industrialists, it is difficult to win and defend your space without blobbing.
tl/dr
Blobbing makes ppl feel safe, and 0.0 SOV results in blobbing becuase it brings better odds of survival. |
